Happy (late) Valentines day!
I feel like everyone always talks about how overrated Valentines day is, and they’re not wrong. It is a little silly, and we definitely don’t need a day dedicated to commercial love. That being said, I’m the biggest hopeless romantic EVER. I’m such a daydreamer, especially when it comes to sweet romantic disney princess shit. So I love Valentines day! It’s fun to plan a date or just have a special night to look forward too with your bae, family, or friends! This weeks post is all about Dayton and I’s valentines day weekend!
February 14th, 2018
Dayton and I decided to save our Valentines day plans for the weekend after, since we both worked on Valentines day. However I did come home to a wonderful display of flowers, goodies, and a lifetime supply of candy from him, which was such a lovely surprise! We spent the evening relaxing and stuffing our faces with chocolate. (aka my perfect night)

Saturday morning rolled around and we made plans to grab some brunch with a friend (hi Ashley!) of mine that I haven’t seen in wayy too long! I am so annoyed/confused why I didn’t snap some pics of us + our bomb brunch, but it was awesome catching up with her! (We are seeing Hamilton together in April, so WATCH OUT FOR THAT!!) Dayton and I did make a stop at Compass Coffee and grabbed a latte before starting our date night.
Our Valentines Day date took place at the Ilani- a new Casino/resort that opened up 15 minutes outside of Vancouver last spring! Dayton and I have been meaning to visit here because we love Vegas and this new casino has been very hyped up in the area. We made a reservation at Michael Jordan’s Steakhouse, which is located inside the Casino. We arrived almost two hours early, and lost our gambling money within 5 minutes… So we ended up at the bar to hangout before our dinner!
The one bummer about the Ilani is that it looks HUGE from the outside, but the first thing we did when we arrived was take a lap around the building and it felt pretty small. There are quite a few food options, and a stage where they hold free concerts every weekend, but we finished up our dinner right before the concert was starting. The Ilani plans to expand very shortly, so it will be interesting to see what else they add on!
Now let’s get to the good stuff…
I started to get hungry (and impatient) around 6:30, so we asked the restaurant if we could be seated early and they said yes with no hesitation! The service at MJ’s was honestly some of the best I’ve ever had, and the fact that they seated us almost an hour early was really nice.
I’m the type of person that looks at a restaurants menu/Yelp reviews far before I eat there, so I thought I knew what I was going to order, but the entire menu just looked SO GOOD it was really hard for both of us to end up deciding!
For a cocktail I had the waitress help choose between the Marion Berry Lemon Drop and the Chicago Sour. She said the Lemon Drop is a best seller, so thats what we drank! It tastes just like a sour belt or sour air head! I also redeemed a free garlic bread appetizer on Yelp when I checked in and OH MY GOD- This was hands down the best garlic bread I’ve had. The fact that it was free made it even better. The waitress poured a bleu cheese fondue over top of the bread which was insaaaane! Even if you don’t like bleu cheese I promise this will have you licking the plate.
It was tough deciding between the regular Filet Minion and the Peppercorn Filet Minion, and I’m glad I went with the Peppercorn! It was 3oz smaller than the other filet, but it came drenched in the spicy peppercorn sauce that was so good it’s literally making my mouth water now as I’m typing. Dayton ordered the Miso Glazed Salmon which he devoured! We also shared Tillamook Mac n Cheese that was also delicious, but we ended up saving half of it because we were already STUFFED and wanted to save room for dessert!
Speaking of dessert….
The famous 23 Layer Chocolate Cake was the one thing I knew I had to order off the menu. I mean come on. LOOK AT IT.
This cake is an E X P E R I E N C E.
The waitress flipped that bad boy over and spread the whip cream over the cake like frosting. Ugh. You guys. This cake is meant for at least 6 people. I was so full I’m shocked I could eat more than three bites. We ended up boxing the cake up and had leftovers for the next two days, but wow it was incredible. I mean its chocolate on chocolate on chocolate on chocolate on chocolate.
Overall I give the Michael Jordan Steakhouse 9/10. I have absolutely no complaints about the service or food! We got seated early, and the staff was extremely nice. The steak was the best i’ve had in a looong time and definitely the best I’ve had around Vancouver, Wa!

On Sunday it snowed! We have had an unusually sunny winter here in Vancouver, so I was happy to see some snow this week! Dayton and I took some pictures while we were helping rescue my brother and his car up in the hills of Portland (lol priorities), So why not share them at the end of this blog post!
Every moment I spend with Dayton is a blast, I have no idea what I did to deserve a guy like him but boy am I lucky! I could go on for hours about how much he means to me, but I’m sure you’re already tired of me gushing over him, so i’ll save it.
I hope you all had a wonderful Valentines day, Galentines day, Single Awareness day, or Wednesday! Whether you think February 14th is a legitimate holiday or not, just remember to always remind those close to you that you love and care for them.
Till next time,
