Hello hello! Welcome back!
Is it just me or is has March gone by way too fast? I swear Valentines day was a week ago, and now all of the sudden it’s almost April! I’ve had SO much going on these last few weeks and I feel like life is only getting busier! Not complaining at all, I love having things to look forward too hehe.
During the first part of my Picky Eater series, I talked about my gateway vegetable and how it helped completely motivate me to finally break out of my picky habits and start eating healthier, more wholesome foods.
For the second part in my series, I wanted to do something a little more fun. I decided to try out a few local health food joints in my area! *Philly D voice* So let’s just jump into it!
BE WELL JUICE BAR
1012 Washington St #160, Vancouver, WA 98660
Be Well Juice bar opened in 2015 and was the first juice bar in Vancouver! I stumbled across this joint after I first started my job in downtown.
Upon walking in, your eyes immediately go to their giant chalkboard menu that changes seasonly, and a large open fridge with buckets full of their ingredients and grab and go items from their menu! As you can see, Be well specializes mostly in juices, toasts, and bowls, but the owner definitely wants you to have it your way.
They like to call it the “Four Wall Theory”
The Four Wall Theory basically means if they have the ingredients within their four walls- they’ll make it for you.
The first thing I tried off of their menu was the Frap smoothie and their Green Eggs avocado toast.
I wasn’t a huge fan of the Frap, I only ordered it because I wanted to play it safe and I looove coffee. The toast is SO good and has my carnivore ass wanting to make vegan coconut bacon. YEAH- COCONUT BACON. I have yet to try their lattes, but I would suggest ordering that over their Frap if you’re in a coffee mood!
If you couldn’t tell, I’ve been back once or twice.
Be Well is a two minute walk from my work, so I get lunch here once or twice a week. Last week they dropped some incredible news and made the ENTIRE menu $5. It was supposed to be one day only, but it went over so well that they made it permanent! They really do serve up some delicious healthy food + drink, so it’s 100% worth it now that everything is $5!
If you’re ever in the PDX area, you’ve got to make it over to Be Well. The staff is sweet, they allow pups, and are always blasting 90’s music. The only bummer is they’re not open on weekends. 🙁 (yet?.. hopefully.)
THE MIGHTY BOWL
108 W 8th St, Vancouver, WA 98660
Starting as a humble food truck that served our community college, food markets, and other spots around Vancouver, The Mighty Bowl took off and recently opened their Brick and Mortar location Downtown! If I had to compare Mighty Bowl to any restaurant it would be Chipotle. Their main menu includes various bowls, salads and burritos. They also offer avocado + other breakfast toasts, smoothies, and more!
The first thing I tried off of their menu was the self titled Mighty Bowl! They have a range of sauces you can top your bowls with and I went with ttheir spiciest option: The Kiggins Sauce (named after a local theatre) This is the only sauce I’ve tried of theirs because it’s insanely good. I want a bottle.
The whole bowl was delicious and filling! I didn’t even notice or care that it is a vegetarian dish. I am also not a chunky salsa gal, but since it is their only salsa I didn’t want to pass it up and I’m glad I didn’t! Everything tasted really fresh and the portion is a great size. I just love the giant hunks of Avocado.
I recently went back and got the Mighty bowl but decided to add chicken, and honestly It didn’t do much for me. If you like hella protien, then go for it. I definitely didn’t need it though which is saying a lot for me, because I used to only eat the meat in meals like this and just pick around the veggies.
Overall The Mighty Bowl is great!
There’s a reason why they got so popular and needed to open up a brick and mortar location. I definitely need to go back and try their breakfast toasts because they look amazing! I love that the mighty bowl is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They’re also open on weekends unlike Be Well, so they’re the SPOT for health food on the weekend.
NEKTER JUICE AND SKOOP BAR
305 SE Chkalov Dr #126, Vancouver, WA 98683
Nekter recently opened up shop in Vancouver. I had never heard of it before, but there’s a TON of locations, so I thought it’d be a good place to try out since you may have one near you! 🙂
Nekter focuses strictly on smoothies, juice, and their own creation: Skoop- A dairy + soy free frozen treat made with Cashew milk!
Dayton and I decided to check this place out pretty much the second I knew it existed. I ordered the Tropical Cooler and he got the Pink Flamingo. I’m not going to lie, the Tropical Cooler was not my jam. Maybe it’s just me but I didn’t get anything tropical from this drink. I think the Spinach + Banana were a little overpowering. I absolutely LOVED and finished Daytons’ Pink Flamingo though. I definitely recommend ordering it! I’m not sure how it’s healthy when it looks and tastes like liquid candy.
I have MAJOR regrets not ordering their Skoop. I’m literally looking at their menu while typing this and didn’t know they had a CHOCOLATE FLAVOR. Ugh. Next time.
Recently I tried their Health Nut smoothie and a bottle of their Skinny Lemonade. The smoothie was so yummy and EXTREMELY filling. (it ended up being my dinner!) This is more of a milkshake than a smoothie to me, it completely satisfied my hunger and sweet tooth, hehe. The Skinny Lemonade was something I just had to try. I mean have you ever seen black lemonade before? The taste was definitely more on the bitter side. The only sweetener in it is Agave, so if you like tart things you’d love this!
(Side note, I accidentally spilled half of this all over myself and my desk and it does seem to stain, so be careful if you’re clumsy like me!)
I will for sure be back to Nekter to try out their Skoop, I’m happy this chain that’s mostly in California decided to open up their first Washington shop in Vancouver!
Do you have a Nekter location near you? Is there something on the menu that I NEED to try? Let me know!
That’s going to do it for this one folks! I hope you enjoyed reading and got inspired to try out some health food joints in your town! I definitely had fun branching out from eating Chipotle or Panera for lunch. Plus I have a new found love for green juice thanks to Be Well!
See you next week!
